The thrilling growth of little Mr. Daniel

Born in Neuss in Germany on June 25th 1983, I spent the first few years of my life in Germany. Frankly, I don’t remember too much of it. In the beginning of 1989 we moved to Japan, where I spent the rest of my childhood.

I did go to a German school in Japan (if you’re interested: DSTY). But, we spent most of our non-school time with Japanese kids from our neighborhood in 池上 (Ikegami). That definitely had the greater impact on my personality. Of course, sometimes I didn’t like being the ε€–δΊΊ (Gaijin) or a third-culture kid. Japanese people certainly tend to let you feel that you’re an outsider. Yet, I definitely loved my time in Japan very much and appreciate it to this day.

In 2004 I finally finished school with my Abitur (yes, yes, I’ve taken my precious time 😁 nothing to see here, please move on). I moved to Germany to study Electrical Engineering (again, very thoroughly, taking my time…). I somehow ended up with a degree in Computer Science and Communications Engineering and working in High Voltage Engineering, which I still love to this day.

I’d be thrilled if I’d one day be able to live a good part of the year in Japan and the other part in Germany or maybe Switzerland, my third cultural heritage.
